Helen Letseka Comrades Blogger •    I am running Comrades for the first time in 2011 just to prove I can.
•    I am running for the Starfish Foundation but will only start hassling my friends and family for money once I have qualified.
•    Although I have been running 10s and 21s for the last decade I only became what I consider to be a runner last year May. That is when I started counting kilometres instead of calories.
•    My most consistent running partner is my 18 month old son in his Baby Jogger pram.
•    My father in law is the coach of my running club (UNISA) which helps a lot!
•    I have three pairs of Asics, I love them all dearly.
•    I could not live without: Sports Tracker application for my Nokia, Turbovite G-Whizz, my Sennheiser sports earphones for indoor use and my elliptical trainer for all these rainy days.
•    My next fitness goal after Comrades is a half Ironman in December.
•    At the age of 30 I am still studying and probably will be for the rest of my life. This year I will complete my first year of a PhD in Biochemistry and the final year of a BA in Linguistics.
•    I am obsessed with neurobiology and the molecular evolution of human language ability.
•    I can often be found on my couch shouting at the popular media for misconstruing the results of scientific studies.
•    I am sceptical of everything… Power Balance, those stupid vibrating things at the gym and low carbohydrate high protein diets to name a few such things. I believe that people are being lied to about clear scientific facts in the name of consumerism.
•    I do not have cancer I just shaved my head for no profound reason.
•    Pizza and beer are my favourite things in the world… ever (this may serve as a disclaimer if I don’t finish).

You sound like just the person to join my crusade to crack the myth of Lactic acid. The running and cycling media don’t seem to be interested. Probably because they propound the nonsense in half their articles.

What is your theory about lactic acid? Would love to give a scientific opinion.
